Cultural Zurich Sightseeing

One of the most popular things to do in Zurich is to visit the Schweizerisches Landesmuseum, otherwise known as the Swiss National Museum. It lies a few minutes from the hotel just beyond the Bahnhof. As well as its famous armoury tower, it contains all sorts of examples of Swiss handicrafts and traditional costumes, ideal for getting to know a bit about the country's past. Another cultural highlight in the city is the Zurich Kunsthaus, or Museum of Fine Arts. This art museum is located on the outskirts of the Old Town and is one of the top Zurich tourist attractions. It houses a major European collection of masterpieces which date from the 15th century to the present. In addition to its permanent collection, the gallery hosts temporary shows.

Heading south from there through the Mühlebach district of the city from the Kunsthaus, visitors will reach the charming Chinese Gardens. Located on the banks of Zürichsee, the city's large lake, these gardens are tranquil and offer a spot for quiet contemplation. The gardens are one of the prettiest places to visit in Zurich, featuring Oriental-style buildings, bridges and landscaping.

Zurich Tourist Attractions Beyond the City Walls

Zurich Zoo is walking distance from the hotel if you are prepared for an hour-long stroll. It is worth the effort because you feel very much like you have experienced a site beyond the bustle of central Zurich. Of course, you can easily get there by public transport or taxi cab if you prefer.

Another way to escape the inner city is to walk to Bürkliplatz which is situated to the south of the hotel. From here it is possible to catch a ferry ride over Lake Zurich and to enjoy the countryside. Lake Zurich Switzerland activities include waterskiing, stand-up paddling and wakeboarding, to name but three. You can hire boats from many locations and head to one of the lake's many beaches.

For those who prefer hiking, then a walk up to the peak of Uetliberg Mountain is possible. It takes about 90 minutes to reach from the hotel. A view from the top of its 853-metre peak affords outstanding vistas of the lake, the surrounding Alpine mountains and, of course, the remarkable city of Zurich itself.
