The optimal way of getting to know Zurich in a short space of time is to step outside and explore it on foot. Start by strolling through the Old Town "Niederdörfli", along the banks of the river Limmat which flows through the city.

Visit the Kunsthaus Zürich: this art gallery houses many impressive works dating from the Middle Ages and is particularly noted its collection of Dadaism and Surrealism.
Insider tip Zurich: Go to a police station. This might sound bizarre but Augusto Giacometti’s (1877 - 1947) magnificent murals are a hidden gem and adorn the entrance hall to police headquarters. Admission is free but checking the opening hours in advance is advisable.
Get pedaling: You can rent a bike for free at the Swiss National Museum, which is only 300 metres from Hotel St. Gotthard Zürich. It's a healthy and hassle-free to see Zurich from a completely different perspective. Stick to the yellow marked cycle paths.
Explore the Botanic Gardens: Affiliated to the ETH University of Zurich, these feature a wide variety of plants from around the world, including tropical plants and fish in huge domed conservatories. The Botanic Gardens are a veritable jewel hidden away from the hustle and bustle of the city center. Entry is free.
